PCI COMPLIANCE

Important Information Regarding Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards

All merchants who accept credit cards must comply with new Visa/MasterCard rules regarding safeguarding customer's information or risk being cancelled and/or fined.  Visa and MasterCard have systems to track the use of stolen credit cards back to a common origin and when they suspect a loss has occurred, they order an audit, the expense of which is borne by the merchant.  If they confirm the loss fines will be rendered.  See more information regarding PCI compliance by visiting the links below.

The following are some cautions that you should be taking to assure that your credit card information is not compromised.  These things by themselves will NOT make you compliant with the new rules.

  • Please check that your system is not holding unencrypted customer information.
  • Delete any old ccaudit.txt files that are unencrypted
  • Be sure you are masking credit card numbers and expiration dates
  • Be sure rmccwin.exe program is dated after 03/03/05
  • If you are using PcCharge be certain it is at least Version 5.7.X
  • Restrict access to sensitive data
  • Shred any old credit card slips that are not masked
  • Change passwords frequently and restrict access on a need to know basis
  • To be fully compliant with the new rules Restaurant Manager software will have to be updated to Version 15.1.  See below for additional features and benefits to upgrading.
